RHS Calendula Fiesta Gitana Seeds by Mr Fothergill’s produce neat and compact hardy annual plants covered in large, fully double blooms. Flowers come in vibrant shades of yellow, gold and rich orange, creating a warm and cheerful display from late spring through to autumn.
Plants grow to approximately 30cm in height with a spread of around 30cm. The tidy habit makes this variety ideal for sunny borders, raised beds and patio containers. It performs well even in poorer soils and is known for being quick and easy to grow.
Calendula Fiesta Gitana flowers from May to October. With regular deadheading, plants will continue to produce fresh blooms throughout the season. Late summer sowings will flower the following year.
The bright petals are edible and can be used to add natural colour to salads and dishes. This makes it a practical as well as decorative addition to kitchen gardens and edible planting schemes.
This variety has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit for reliable performance in UK gardens. The seed range is produced by Mr Fothergill’s in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society, offering dependable results and strong germination.
For outdoor sowing, sow from March to June and again from August to October in a prepared seed bed in flowering position. Sow thinly in rows 25cm apart. Cover lightly with 0.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear in 7 to 21 days. Make 2 to 3 sowings for a longer flowering season.
When large enough, thin seedlings to approximately 23cm apart. Keep soil moist and weed free during establishment. Remove spent flower heads regularly to prolong flowering.
