RHS Coreopsis Early Sunrise Seeds by Mr Fothergill’s produce bright golden yellow double blooms that light up borders from mid summer into autumn. This hardy perennial is compact, reliable and flowers freely from the first year when sown early.
Plants grow to around 45cm in height with a spread of approximately 30cm. The neat shape makes it ideal for the front of sunny borders and for patio containers. The fully double flowers have a rich yellow tone that stands out clearly against green foliage.
Coreopsis Early Sunrise is known for its long flowering season and strong garden performance. It holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, recognising its reliability in UK growing conditions. The seed range is produced by Mr Fothergill’s in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society.
This variety thrives in full sun and well drained soil. It is drought tolerant once established and easy to care for. The bright blooms attract pollinators and provide colour through late summer when many other plants begin to fade.
For indoor sowing, sow from February to April in trays of seed compost. Cover lightly with fine compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover with glass or a propagator lid and keep at approximately 15 to 20C. Seedlings appear in 14 to 28 days. Remove cover once seedlings appear. When large enough, transplant 5cm apart into further trays or pots. Stand outside for a few days in late May to acclimatise, avoiding frost. Transplant 20cm apart in a sunny flowering position.
For outdoor sowing, sow from April to July in a prepared seed bed. Sow thinly in rows 20cm apart. Cover lightly with fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. When large enough, thin to 10cm apart. Transplant 20cm apart in autumn.
Flowers appear from July to October. Remove dead flower heads regularly to prolong flowering and encourage fresh buds.
RHS Coreopsis Early Sunrise is perfect for gardeners who want bold yellow colour, compact growth and dependable flowering year after year.
