RHS Forget Me Not Chinese Seeds by Mr Fothergill’s produce masses of vivid blue dainty blooms carried on upright branching stems. This hardy annual delivers a generous display of colour from early summer through to autumn, making it ideal for sunny mixed borders and cottage garden planting.
Also known by its botanical name Cynoglossum amabile, this variety grows to approximately 45cm in height with a spread of around 30cm. Its soft blue flowers create a natural, relaxed feel and pair beautifully with roses, ornamental grasses and other summer annuals.
This variety holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for reliability and strong garden performance. It is also recognised as Perfect for Pollinators, helping to attract bees and beneficial insects into the garden throughout the flowering season. The seed range is produced by Mr Fothergill’s in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society.
Chinese Forget Me Not prefers full sun and well drained soil, and performs particularly well in less fertile ground. It is easy to grow both indoors and directly outdoors, making it a versatile choice for gardeners of all experience levels.
For indoor sowing, sow from February to April in trays of seed compost. Sow thinly and cover with approximately 0.5cm of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover with glass, polythene or a propagator lid and maintain a temperature of 15 to 20C. Seedlings appear in approximately 14 to 28 days. Remove cover once seedlings emerge. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm apart in trays. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions in late May, avoiding frosts. Transplant 25cm apart in flowering position.
For outdoor sowing, sow from April to May in a prepared seed bed in flowering position. Sow thinly in rows 20cm apart and cover with approximately 0.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. When large enough, thin to 25cm apart. Keep moist and weed free during establishment.
Plants flower from June to October. Cutting down after flowering helps prevent the sticky seeds from becoming a nuisance.
