RHS Aster Alpine Mixed Seeds by Mr Fothergill’s produce neat, compact hardy perennials covered in large daisy style blooms. This colourful mix brings shades of pink, purple and white with bright yellow centres, creating a cheerful early summer display.

These low growing perennials reach around 30cm in height with a spread of approximately 45cm. They form tidy clumps of foliage and are perfect for sunny borders, rockeries and patio containers. The compact habit makes them easy to place at the front of beds where their flowers can be fully appreciated.

Aster Alpine Mixed flowers from May to July in the year after sowing. The open centred blooms attract pollinators, making this an excellent choice for wildlife friendly gardens.

This variety has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit for reliable performance and strong garden value. It is also recognised as perfect for pollinators. The seed range is produced by Mr Fothergill’s in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society, offering dependable results in UK gardens.

For indoor sowing, sow from February to May in trays of seed compost. Cover lightly with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover with glass, polythene or a propagator lid and keep at approximately 15 to 18C. Seedlings appear in 21 to 35 days. Remove cover once seedlings appear. Transplant 5cm apart in trays when large enough. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting 30cm apart in flowering position from summer onwards.

For outdoor sowing, sow from May to July in a prepared seed bed. Sow thinly in rows 20cm apart. Cover with 0.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Transplant 30cm apart in flowering position from September to October.

Trim plants after flowering to encourage a stronger clump forming habit.

RHS Aster Alpine Mixed is a reliable perennial that provides structure, colour and pollinator support in one easy to grow mix.

Mr Fothergill's is a much loved British seed brand with a simple belief at its heart, gardening has the power to enrich everyday life and deepen our connection with nature. What began in 1978 in the converted stable block of Lillie Langtry’s former Newmarket home has grown into one of the most trusted names in seeds and plants, with a reputation built on quality, innovation and genuine care for gardeners.

From its home in Kentford, Newmarket, the company has evolved from a small family business into a modern seed specialist, with purpose built offices, a seed testing laboratory, packing and storage facilities, and extensive trial grounds and growing sites.
