RHS Canna indica Large Flowered Hybrids Seeds by Mr Fothergill’s produce bold, tropical looking plants with large, vibrant blooms in shades of red, orange and yellow. These dramatic plants create a striking display in large patio containers and sunny garden borders.
Plants grow to approximately 120cm in height with a spread of around 50cm. The broad, lush foliage adds structure and impact even before flowering begins. From July to October, tall flower spikes rise above the leaves and provide strong colour through summer and into autumn.
Canna Large Flowered Hybrids are half hardy perennials. In colder areas, containers should be overwintered in a frost free location. In mild areas they can be lifted and stored once foliage has died back.
This variety is recognised as an excellent performer in garden trials. The seed range is produced by Mr Fothergill’s in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society, offering dependable quality and strong performance in UK conditions.
For indoor sowing, sow from February to April in trays of seed compost. Cover lightly with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Keep at approximately 20C. Seedlings appear in 14 to 21 days. Grow on at around 15C. When large enough, transplant 5cm apart in trays.
Stand plants outside for a few days in late May to acclimatise, avoiding frost. Transplant into large patio containers or plant 40cm apart in a sunny flowering position in the garden. Keep moist and weed free during the growing season. Remove dead flower spikes to prolong flowering.
For best results, soak seed in warm water for 24 hours before sowing to encourage germination.
RHS Canna indica Large Flowered Hybrids is ideal for gardeners who want bold height, tropical style foliage and long lasting summer colour.
