Also known as Avola, this compact early maturing variety is perfect when you want reliable crops in smaller spaces. Whether you garden on an allotment, balcony or in raised beds, Spring earns its place with generous yields and superb flavour.

This variety is specially selected by the Royal Horticultural Society for dependable performance in UK conditions and carries the respected RHS Award of Garden Merit. That means it has been tried and tested for vigour, health and taste so you can sow with confidence.

Spring is an exceptionally early cropping pea. Plants stay neat and compact, which makes them ideal for containers, planters and raised beds where taller varieties might be awkward. Despite their smaller habit, the plants are very productive. Each well filled pod contains up to 8 sweet succulent peas that taste incredible straight from the garden. Pick them young and eat fresh, add to salads for a burst of sweetness or toss quickly into stir fries and warm dishes.

Sow directly where they are to crop from March to June once the soil begins to warm. Choose a sunny spot with fertile well drained soil or use a deep container filled with quality peat free compost. Sow in shallow drills or in large pots, then water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist. As plants grow, provide simple support with short pea sticks or mesh so the stems can climb and stay off the soil. Regular picking encourages more pods, extending your harvest window from as early as May right through to October in good seasons.

Peas are naturally rich in folate, vitamin A and vitamin C, making them a wholesome addition to everyday meals. Growing your own means you can enjoy them at their very sweetest since peas start to lose sweetness soon after picking.
