Grow truly memorable tomatoes with RHS Tomato Tomande F1 Seeds by Mr Fothergills, a modern improvement on the classic Marmande type. Tomande F1 combines hybrid performance with rich old fashioned flavour, producing succulent, fleshy fruits with exceptional taste and a generous harvest over a long season.

This is a high yielding indeterminate variety, meaning plants continue to grow and crop steadily when trained up canes or string supports. Tomande F1 is ideal for greenhouse growing, but it can also be grown outdoors in a warm sunny sheltered spot once all risk of frost has passed. The fruits are large, meaty and full of flavour, perfect for slicing into salads, layering into sandwiches, or using in slow cooked sauces where that deep tomato taste really shines.

Sow under cover from January to March for greenhouse crops, or from March to April for outdoor crops. Use seed compost in trays or pots and keep warm for reliable germination. Once seedlings are large enough, pot on individually and grow on in bright conditions. Plant into grow bags or large pots in the greenhouse from April to May, or harden off and plant outside from late May when nights are mild.

As plants grow, provide strong support and pinch out side shoots regularly to focus energy into fruiting. Keep soil consistently moist and feed with a liquid tomato feed every 2 to 3 weeks once the first trusses have set. Harvest can run from June to October, with outdoor crops typically starting from August.

Tomande F1 has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit, confirming its reliability and performance in UK growing conditions. As part of the Mr Fothergills seed range produced in partnership with the RHS, it has been carefully selected for flavour, yield and all round success for home growers.

  1. Tomande F1 is the tomato we recommend when you want that proper old fashioned flavour but with the reliability and yield of a modern variety. The fruits are wonderfully meaty and juicy, perfect for slicing, and the plants keep cropping when you look after them with regular feeding and support. It is a brilliant choice for greenhouse growers, but it also performs well outdoors in a warm spot. With the RHS Award of Garden Merit behind it, this is a dependable favourite for serious tomato lovers.
