Enjoy generous crops of delicious broad beans even in smaller or more exposed gardens with RHS Broad Bean Suprifin Seeds by Mr Fothergills. Suprifin is a mid sized bushy variety that is ideal where space is limited or conditions are a little windy. Plants stay compact yet sturdy, typically reaching 75 to 90cm tall, and carry masses of well filled pods along their stems.

Each short pod reaches around 15cm in length and holds up to 5 medium sized beans. The beans have outstanding flavour, rich and creamy with a tender texture when picked young. Enjoy them steamed, boiled and tossed with herbs, or double podded for a smooth luxurious taste in salads and side dishes.

Suprifin is an excellent choice for UK gardens thanks to its reliable cropping and naturally bushy habit. It is particularly useful for exposed sites, coastal plots and smaller family gardens where very tall broad beans may be prone to wind damage. Despite its compact size, this variety is impressively productive, providing a long harvest window from early summer into late summer when pods are picked regularly.

Sow outdoors from March to May in a prepared seed bed or start undercover in pots from February for an earlier crop. Space seeds in wide double rows leaving good room between each plant so light and air can reach the pods. Keep soil moist and weed free, and provide simple support in very windy gardens if needed. Harvest from June to August while beans are still small and tender for the best flavour.

RHS Broad Bean Suprifin carries the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit which confirms its reliability and quality in UK growing conditions. As part of the Mr Fothergills seed range produced in partnership with the RHS, it has been thoroughly trialled for yield, taste and garden performance so you can sow with confidence.

Botanically known as Vicia faba, Suprifin sits within the wider peas and beans family and fits beautifully into any kitchen garden or mixed veg patch. It is perfect for beds, allotments and large containers, bringing strong plants, masses of pods and a steady supply of fresh beans through the summer. Pair with AllotMate Essentials composts, supports and plant feeds to get the very best from your crop.

  1. Suprifin is a brilliant solution when you want a full crop of broad beans without towering plants taking over the garden. We love how sturdy and compact the plants are, yet they still carry an impressive number of pods. The beans themselves have gorgeous flavour, especially when picked young and enjoyed fresh from the garden. With its Award of Garden Merit and suitability for smaller or breezier plots, this is a dependable broad bean that fits comfortably into almost any growing space.
