Houseplants have a way of exposing bad watering habits fast. Too much from a can with a wide spout and you're soaking the leaves, drowning the compost, or watering the windowsill instead of the pot. This can was built to stop that happening. It's designed for precision, indoors, where a heavy-handed pour has nowhere to drain away and nothing to blame but you.

The can is made from powder-coated galvanised steel, so it's properly durable rather than just decorative, and finished in a soft buttermilk shade with a matt surface that reads as considered rather than showy. A brass seal bearing the Sophie Conran for Burgon & Ball mark sits on the top surface, a small detail that signals this was designed with some care rather than knocked out as an afterthought.

The spout is the part that actually earns its keep. It's slender and precisely shaped, built to direct water exactly where a plant needs it and nowhere else. That matters more indoors than out: a badly aimed pour on a patio is forgotten by teatime, but a badly aimed pour on a windowsill means a damp patch on the wood, or water pooling round the base of a pot that was already sitting too wet. With a spout this controlled, you can water tightly packed pots, awkward corners of a plant shelf, or a single fussy fern without disturbing anything around it.

At 1.7 litres, it holds enough to get through a decent watering round without constant refills, while staying light enough to handle comfortably even with a full load. The handle is shaped to sit naturally in the hand as you tilt forward to pour, which keeps the whole motion controlled rather than tipping into a sudden gush the moment the can starts to angle. It's a small ergonomic touch, but it's the difference between a can that feels awkward after the third refill and one you barely think about.

At 43cm long, 23cm high, and 13cm wide, and weighing just 326g empty, it's proportioned for indoor use specifically. It sits comfortably on a shelf between waterings rather than needing to be tucked away, and the buttermilk finish means it doesn't look out of place doing so, whether that shelf is in a farmhouse kitchen, a plant-filled living room, or a minimalist windowsill. It's as much a piece worth leaving out as it is a tool worth using.

This buttermilk finish is one of several available. The same can comes in blue and grey, alongside a galvanised steel version in a smaller one litre size, so it's easy to colour-match to an existing collection or start one from scratch. Whichever finish you choose, the job is the same: better control over how and where your houseplants get watered, in a can that looks the part sitting next to them.

This isn't just a watering can, it's a piece of design. We love how the slender spout reaches tight spaces without disturbing the plant, and the buttermilk shade is soft, neutral, and genuinely calming to look at. It's one of those items that's as lovely to use as it is to leave out on the shelf, and we find ourselves reaching for it again and again.
