RHS Aubrietia Royal Series Seeds by Mr Fothergill’s produce low growing, mat forming hardy perennials that create a carpet of vibrant flowers in spring and early summer. This variety is ideal for sunny borders, rockeries and walls where ground cover is needed.

Plants grow to approximately 15cm in height with a spread of around 45cm. The dense evergreen foliage forms neat cushions that become covered in bright purple and violet blooms from March to June in the year after sowing.

Aubrietia is perfect for softening the edges of paths, spilling over raised beds and filling gaps between stones. It thrives in full sun and well drained soil. Once established it is reliable and easy to maintain.

This variety has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit for dependable performance in UK gardens. It is also recognised as perfect for pollinators, helping to support bees and beneficial insects in early season.

The seed range is produced by Mr Fothergill’s in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society, giving gardeners confidence in quality and results.

For indoor sowing, sow from February to April in trays of seed compost. Do not cover seed with compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover with glass, polythene or a propagator lid and keep at approximately 18C. Seedlings appear in 21 to 35 days. Remove cover once seedlings appear. Transplant 5cm apart in trays when large enough. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions. Plant out 30cm apart in flowering position from September to October.

For outdoor sowing, sow from April to June in a prepared seed bed. Sow thinly in rows 20cm apart. Cover lightly with fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Transplant 30cm apart in flowering position from September to October.

Cut back after flowering to keep plants compact and encourage fresh growth.

RHS Aubrietia Royal Series is a dependable perennial that provides early season colour, evergreen structure and excellent ground cover.

About Mr Fothergill's

Mr Fothergill's is a much loved British seed brand with a simple belief at its heart, gardening has the power to enrich everyday life and deepen our connection with nature. What began in 1978 in the converted stable block of Lillie Langtry’s former Newmarket home has grown into one of the most trusted names in seeds and plants, with a reputation built on quality, innovation and genuine care for gardeners.

From its home in Kentford, Newmarket, the company has evolved from a small family business into a modern seed specialist, with purpose built offices, a seed testing laboratory, packing and storage facilities, and extensive trial grounds and growing sites. Every season, seeds and plants are carefully selected, tested and packed so that gardeners in the UK and in more than 30 countries can sow with confidence.

For over 40 years, Mr Fothergill’s has supplied garden centres, shops and home gardeners with an extensive range of vegetable and flower seeds, young plants and useful gardening essentials. Whether you are working with a balcony, courtyard, back garden or full allotment, and whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned grower, the brand’s aim is the same, to inspire you, to offer reliable products at great value, and to give you the confidence to grow a beautiful space and delicious homegrown food.
