Bring the crisp sweetness of freshly picked mangetout peas to your kitchen garden with RHS Pea Mangetout Delikata. This exceptional variety produces dark green, succulent pods with a tender bite and outstanding flavour. Enjoy them whole as mangetout or allow the pods to mature for shelling peas – a versatile crop that offers double the harvest from one sowing.

Winner of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, Delikata is recognised for its reliability, excellent flavour, and consistent garden performance. With natural resistance to common pea diseases, it promises high quality yields over a long season, even in unpredictable British weather.

Plants grow to around 75 cm tall, making them compact enough for small gardens, raised beds, or deep containers. They climb readily with the help of pea sticks, netting, or a simple cane frame, producing a lush display of green foliage and delicate white flowers before the pods appear.

Sow directly outdoors from March to June in prepared soil, spacing drills 60 cm apart and sowing seeds 5 cm apart in a zigzag pattern along a 5 cm deep drill. Protect early sowings with cloches or fleece, and firm the soil gently to maintain moisture. Seedlings emerge within 10–18 days. For the best results, make 2 or 3 sowings at intervals to extend your harvest through summer.

Once established, Delikata is easy to care for. Keep soil moist, weed free, and protect young plants from birds with twigs or netting. In windy areas, provide extra support to prevent lodging. Regular picking from May to September encourages more pods to form, ensuring a continuous supply of crisp mangetout.

The generous 150 seed pack allows plenty for successive sowings, providing fresh crops right through the growing season. Produced by Mr Fothergill’s Seeds in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society, this premium seed line brings together expert horticultural standards and dependable seed quality you can trust.

Whether you’re an allotment grower, patio gardener, or first-time vegetable grower, RHS Pea Mangetout Delikata is an easy and rewarding variety that delivers exceptional taste, texture, and versatility straight from your garden to your plate.

At Allotmate Essentials, we love a crop that earns its keep, and RHS Pea Mangetout Delikata does just that. It’s a space-saver that rewards you with sweet, crunchy pods for months, and it’s tough enough to handle unpredictable weather with ease.

The flavour is outstanding – crisp, fresh, and moreish whether eaten raw straight from the vine or lightly steamed with butter. We especially love how you can enjoy it in two ways: as tender mangetout or as traditional shelling peas once pods mature. It’s a brilliant all-rounder that suits busy gardeners and beginners alike.

The RHS Award of Garden Merit stamp means it’s been tested and proven, so you can sow with total confidence. Easy, delicious, and productive – it’s exactly the kind of variety we love to recommend for every garden or allotment.
