Enjoy fast, reliable harvests of beautifully smooth turnips with RHS Turnip Tokyo Cross F1 Seeds by Mr Fothergills. This outstanding modern variety is prized for its exceptionally quick growth and consistently high quality roots, making it ideal for gardeners who want dependable results throughout the growing season.

Tokyo Cross F1 produces round, porcelain white roots with a fine texture and a deliciously mild flavour. The flesh is crisp, tender and never coarse when harvested at the right size. Its gentle taste makes it a versatile choice for roasting, mashing, steaming or enjoying raw when picked young. It is also excellent for growing as baby turnips, perfect for slicing into salads or serving lightly dressed with olive oil and herbs.

One of the key strengths of this variety is its adaptability. Tokyo Cross F1 performs just as well in traditional garden beds as it does in containers, making it a great option for patios, balconies and smaller growing spaces. Regular sowings allow for a steady supply of fresh roots from early summer through to autumn, with each crop maturing quickly and evenly.

Sow directly from April to September into well prepared soil or deep containers filled with fine, moisture retentive compost. Sow thinly and keep soil consistently moist to encourage rapid growth and smooth roots. Thin seedlings as they develop to allow space for roots to form properly. Harvest from June to October, lifting alternate plants while others continue to grow.

This variety has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit which confirms its reliability, flavour and performance in UK gardens. As part of the Mr Fothergills seed range produced in partnership with the RHS, Tokyo Cross F1 has been carefully trialled to ensure excellent results for home growers.

About Mr Fothergill's

Mr Fothergill's is a much loved British seed brand with a simple belief at its heart, gardening has the power to enrich everyday life and deepen our connection with nature. What began in 1978 in the converted stable block of Lillie Langtry’s former Newmarket home has grown into one of the most trusted names in seeds and plants, with a reputation built on quality, innovation and genuine care for gardeners.

From its home in Kentford, Newmarket, the company has evolved from a small family business into a modern seed specialist, with purpose built offices, a seed testing laboratory, packing and storage facilities, and extensive trial grounds and growing sites. Every season, seeds and plants are carefully selected, tested and packed so that gardeners in the UK and in more than 30 countries can sow with confidence.

For over 40 years, Mr Fothergill’s has supplied garden centres, shops and home gardeners with an extensive range of vegetable and flower seeds, young plants and useful gardening essentials. Whether you are working with a balcony, courtyard, back garden or full allotment, and whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned grower, the brand’s aim is the same, to inspire you, to offer reliable products at great value, and to give you the confidence to grow a beautiful space and delicious homegrown food.
